Give your baby a Strong Start
Do you want to have the healthiest baby you can? Do you want to learn how to keep your baby from being born too early? Do you want to help future pregnant women, new mothers, and babies get the very best care? That's what Strong Start is all about!
Let your local Birth Center help you, FREE if you qualify, with:
- Managing Stress
- Eating Right
- Having a Healthier Baby
- Helpful Resources
Start right away! As soon as you know you are pregnant, or even while you are planning to have a baby, you should begin preparing yourself for a strong, healthy delivery and newborn. The Strong Start program makes it easy for you. It is important to join the program early, for your health and for the health of your newborn.
American Association of Birth Centers Strong Start program is available at many Birth Centers throughout the US. As a Birth Center client, you receive high quality prenatal care and learn to lower your risk of having your infant too early. The Strong Start goal is to help you to have the healthiest baby you can by giving you the support, help, and info you need to become and stay healthy during pregnancy. Also, by being in the Strong Start program, you can help us learn what type of prenatal care may help future mothers avoid delivering a premature baby.
For many pregnant women, AABC Strong Start is a FREE program. On your first visit to a participating Birth Center, we will find out if you qualify. A Birth Center is a comfortable, home-like setting with caring staff, all focused on healthy pregnancies. You will be examined and evaluated by trained professional women. During your time together, they will get to know you and gather info about you, your pregnancy, your health, any past pregnancies, your work setting, and other parts of your lifestyle. This will help them determine if the Strong Start program is right for you.
Once in the Strong Start program, you will be under the care of a midwife and have regularly scheduled exams. These checkups will be scheduled more frequently as you get closer to your due date. Compared with the usual prenatal doctor visits, those at a Birth Center are more personal and more time is spent on your special needs.
Your Strong Start care will include much more. You will also have the help and support of a "peer counselor" - a woman with training in healthy pregnancy, assigned specially to you. She will make sure you have everything you need during your pregnancy. She will help you know how to keep yourself healthy during your pregnancy by eating right, lowering stress, staying active, involving your family for support, and other ways.
We hope to have you as part of the Strong Start program. Learn more about it on this website and find an AABC Strong Start Birth Center near you.
