Throughout the day, we experience times when we need to relax. Here are some easy ways to do just that!
Count backwards. Close your eyes, take deep breaths in and out, and breathe slowly. Slowly count backwards from 50 to 0. Count more slowly the closer you get to zero. You will feel much more relaxed.
Smile and Laugh. Smiling relaxes the body. Smile at the people you pass on the street. Throughout the day, find a few things to laugh about – a joke, a news article, or a picture.
Massage your hands. Apply your favorite scented lotion to your hands. Knead the base of the muscle under your thumb. This will help to reduce tension in your shoulders, neck, and scalp.
Pet your pet. Research has shown that our blood pressure drops when we cuddle up with our favorite animals.
Eat and drink something healthy. Grab a piece of fruit, a bag of baby carrots, or something high in protein and/or fiber to eat. A healthy drink might be a nice glass of cool water or warm decaffeinated tea.
Express yourself creatively. It’s hard to stress over things when you’re engaged in something fun. So sing, dance, play an instrument, or paint!
